Model train at History Center

The Old Colorado City Historical Society (OCCHS) will have two free activities going on during the May 25-27 Territory Days.
One of these, in keeping with tradition, will be volunteers manning the 1859 Garvin Cabin all three days, explaining local history to visitors and selling baked goods as a fundraiser for the nonprofit society.
The other activity, new this year, will be an HO scale modular railroad, 28 feet in length, that will be set up inside the OCCHS' History Center at 1 S. 24th St. Built by model railroader Chris Fox, its multiple trains will include Colorado Midland steam locomotives pulling passenger and freight trains, plus other replicas of engines and cars from the 1920s to the present.
“Often, two or more trains will run at a time and will be controlled by digital command and control,” a press release states. “This allows for independent control of the trains on the same track. Many of the trains will be sound-equipped for that extra 'bells and whistles' effect.”
For more information, call the OCCHS at 636-1225.
