Nature Center holds ‘Stewardship Day’

       Volunteers are requested Saturday, May 14 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. to help Bear Creek Nature Center staff spruce up the gardens, trails and creek near the the center at 245 Bear Creek Road.
       A hotdog lunch will follow.
       Preregistration for “Bear Creek Stewardship Day” is necessary at 520-6387.
       Chance to clean up hwy
       Members of the public are welcome to join a trash pick-up Saturday, May 14 along a mile of highway (in front of Red Rock Canyon Open Space) that's been adopted by Scenic Colorado.
       The meeting place is the northwest intersection of Highway 24 and Ridge Road at 9:30 a.m.
       Orange bags and vests will be provided. Participants are asked to wear long pants and bring gloves.
       The work typically takes about two hours, according to local Scenic Colorado leader Larry Barrett.

       Whittlers at Shrine Club
       The Pikes Peak Whittlers will sponsor their 28th annual “Woodcarving and Woodworking Show, Sale and Competition” the weekend of May 21-22.
       The event will be at the Colorado Springs Shrine Club, 6 S. 33rd St., from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 21 and 10 to 4 the 22nd.
       Admission is $3 for adults, with free admission for children under 12 with an adult.
       According to a press release, there will be “50 tables of exhibitors, vendors, and competitors from around Colorado and nearby states. They will be displaying and selling woodcarvings, woodturnings, wood burnings and scroll- sawed items including realistic animals, caricatures and other wood artistry.”
