Meet a Westsider:
Dani Tobey

Profession/Occupation... Owner of Baby Cotton Bottoms.

What I like most about the Westside is... I love my neighbors! My children run up and down the street to play with their friends, we have parties together, and I know a friendly face or someone I can rely on is only a couple houses away in any direction. Cliché or no, it’s home.

If I could change anything about the Westside, it would be... I wouldn’t change much, but if I could see the city put more effort into building infrastructure in the old neighborhoods, it would make me happy. We have a real gem in Old Colorado City and all the fantastic Westside attractions and open space, and the city as a whole would benefit.

A good movie I’ve seen recently is... “Jiro Dreams of Sushi.” My husband and I were cooks when we met, and we still love food, particularly Japanese. It is a beautiful and yummy story!

I'd like to discover... a way for our political leaders to see past their own silly agendas and start looking at the world as a whole and their constituents as human beings. I’d like to find a way to bring them together to actually lead the human race into a place of peace and mutual community.

If I could meet someone famous, I’d like to meet... I’d have loved the opportunity to have a meal with Steve Jobs. He was a phenomenally smart, innovative and creative man. In running my business, I try to think just a tiny bit like him every day.

The next time I travel, I’m going... Likely next time we travel we’ll be going to Cape Cod to see our kids’ grandparents. We’re still at a phase where visiting Grandma and Grandpa is the coolest thing we can afford and our girls’ favorite thing to do, but at least they live in a lovely place to visit.

My favorite childhood memory is... Getting on my bike and riding miles and miles to swimming lessons every day with my neighbor friend. We’d be gone all day on adventures, getting an ice cream cone and hot dog, swimming and catching crawdads in the stream at the park. I can’t imagine my little girl doing that now, even though she’s nearly as old as I was then. But I do my best to make sure my daughters get similar chances to just be crazy kids in the summer.

My favorite summer pastime is... going to the Colorado Farm & Art Market every Wednesday evening. We meet our friends and the farmers and ranchers, eat fresh snacks on the lawn, and our kids all run around having a great time catching bugs and playing tag.

Something good I’ve read is... I just read a pre-release copy of “Get Jiro!” by Anthony Bourdain and my brilliant neighbor Langdon Foss. It is about to be finished and released, and it is amazing! Langdon’s art dragged me into the story, and I just couldn’t put it down or stop staring at it.

My pet peeve is... People who think cloth diapers are only for hippies... I shave my legs!

If I didn’t have to work for a year, I would... I would play with my kids and have time to really plan and do some great things with them – travel to all the places I wanted to see as a kid, national parks, oceans, and to see our families, read great books with them, make messy art and just soak up this short time when they’re young. And I’d be ridiculously excited just to have time to catch up with my house and do all those projects we never get to that have been planned for the last decade.
