31st annual Whittlers' event at Shrine Club May 17-18

       The Pikes Peak Whittlers will sponsor their 31st annual Woodcarving and Woodworking Show and Competition the weekend of May 17-18 at the Colorado Springs Shrine Club, 6 S. 33rd St.
       The time will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
       Admission is $3 for adults, $2 for seniors and military, and free for any Scouts in uniform or children under 12 with an adult.
       ”This year's show will be judged by the award-winning carver, Janet Cordell of the Denton family of woodcarvers,” a press release states. “ The Dentons have been featured in National Geographic, woodcarving journals, newspaper articles, and television documentaries.”
       Included will be “50 tables of display as well as sales of wood, patterns, tools and carvings,” the release adds. “Watch and learn as chips fly during carving demonstrations and a whittling contest.”
       The Whittlers' mission is to “promote the art of carving through education, sharing and competition,” the release states.
