100th birthday planned for 98-year BV home

The historic Buena Vista school site - now the home of the Westside Community Center - will celebrate its 100th anniversary Oct. 11, and planners of the event are looking for people and things that could add to the fun.
Alan Rasmussen, principal of BV from 1988 to 2005, is heading up the committee that's planning the event.
Also closely involved is Dick Siever, Westside Center director.
They're still in the early stages of planning, but Rasmussen said he wants to get the word out now so people will be aware that it's coming and former staff and students will have time to start tracking down old photos and memorabilia from their school days. “Anything like that would be nice to have,” he said.
District 11 moved Buena Vista to a new Westside location (the former Washington school) in Fall 2009, after 98 years on the north side of West Bijou Street's 1600 block. The community center relocated there in the summer of 2009 and has been run by an arm of the Woodmen Valley Chapel since April 2010.
Rasmussen can be reached at 636-3308.
