McFarland, author and Pioneer columnist, to receive PPLD's Golden Quill award

       Mel McFarland, who has written his Cobweb Corners column for the Westside Pioneer since 2004, will receive the annual Golden Quill award from the Pikes Peak Library District.
       The honor is “given to a Pikes Peak region author for a body of work,” a press release states.
       The presentation will occur at an awards luncheon Thursday, May 14 at 11:30 a.m. at the Hotel Elegante, 2886 S Circle Drive.

       McFarland, who lived on the Westside through much of his youth, has written three books on area railroad history and co-written a fourth. He's also the editor of the Colorado Midland Quarterly and has written historical columns for area publications (in addition to the Pioneer) since 1997.
