Questions about Territory Days? Info meeting May 7

Anyone with questions about or issues with Territory Days is invited to attend an informational meeting Wednesday, May 7 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
The location will be the Westside Community Center, 1628 W. Bijou St.
The meeting will be hosted by Jim Wear, who organizes Territory Days for the Old Colorado City Associates (OCCA) business group, and by Welling Clark, president of the Organization of Westside Neighbors (OWN).
The annual, heavily attended, street festival will be May 24-26 . It inevitably has impacts on the surrounding neighborhoods, in terms of on-street parking and trash. If there are any known issues ahead of time, Wear and Clark said they want to hear about them and work out solutions.
In an e-mail to Clark, Wear said, “I want you and the other folks from the Westside neighborhood group to know that we are doing all we can to alleviate the negative impact that Territory Days has on the local residents. I think our success over the past four years (since my company took over) is evident - but we always strive to improve no matter how good a job we think we are doing.”
He advised anyone seeing illegal parking to report it to the Police Department at 444-7000. “There are motor officers patrolling the neighborhood during the posted event hours and they will respond in short order.”
As for trash, Wear said he hires a cleanup crew for the event area; “however, we will respond to a neighbor outside the closure if the trash is event-related.” There was only one such complaint last year, “and it turned out to be that a dog had gotten into someone's trash. In the spirit of cooperation, We picked it up anyway. Complaints of this type should be directed to me on my cell phone at 291-3915.”
