What do you do?
Ivonne Bass

Where do you work and what is your title?
I am the owner of Coffee Fanatic.
What do you do there and/or what are you responsible for?
All the day- to-day operations, customer service, bookkeeping, purchasing (I work with an independent grower directly from Columbia importing coffee), retail and wholesale.
How long have you been doing this kind of work (total)? How long on the Westside?
Iíve been in the coffee business for three years with my husband, He helps with the website (development & maintaining) and Internet sales. Weíve been here on the Westside for a year.
What do you like best about it (other than quitting time)?
This is my second business in my short life. I like being my own boss and the flexibility in my schedule, especially with a 2-year-old. This is also a way to express myself. I can play with color and merchandise items in the displays, gift baskets and decor for the shop.
If you could change one thing (other than pay), what would it be?
I would like to see more local people from not just Old Colorado City but Colorado Springs in general come to this area. No business should have a slow time.
What part of your work did your training/education never prepare you for?
Opening a business in a foreign country is different. Iím from Columbia and any business can be profitable there. Itís easier to know what people like. I have a business administration degree from Colombia. Here, diversity makes it difficult and more challenging for a business to offer a product that everyone will find interesting. At the same time, itís an opportunity to expand and diversify the business.
What makes working on the Westside special?
The people here are very nice. The architectural style is beautiful. It reminds me of old times Ė the cowboys and the West.

ďWhat do you do?Ē is a regular feature in the Westside Pioneer. If you know someone who has an interesting job on the Westside (but doesnít live here), he/she might be a candidate for this column! If you know someone who might qualify, give us a call at 471-6776.
