What they’ll do for science

A student team from East Middle School paddles across the Coronado High School pool on a craft made of plastic bottles taped to wood April 15 in CHS’ annual Boat Regatta. East’s was one of about 10 schools entering the event through their participation in the science-oriented, statewide Mesa Club. According to CHS science teacher Lynne Williams, the Boat Regatta reflects “problem solving.” She said the students “use math and science skills and technology to see if it’s possible to take ordinary things like milk jugs and wood flats and see if they can float on them and rescue someone.”
