Meet a Westsider:
husband and I own the art gallery & frame shop, 45 Degree. Also proud mom to
our 16 month old
What I like most about the Westside is... I like that the Westside offers the best of Colorado Springs. Great dining, shopping, music, parks and recreational areas. I’d never have to leave if we didn’t want to. I also like how accessable it is by foot or bike.
If I could change anything about the Westside, it would be...The lack of attention and financial investment from the Colorado Springs city government for advertising and infrastructure.
A good movie I've seen recently is... Hahahahahahahaha. If only I had time.
I'd like to discover... I’d like to discover a way to gain more workable hours in my days. I am in a constant state of catch-up trying to balance family, friends and a successful business.
If I could meet someone famous, I'd like to meet... Christo. Probably not to have a full conversation, but just observe his creative process.
The next time I travel, I'm going to... Chicago. We moved here from Chicago and love to go back and enjoy the city at least once a year.
My favorite childhood memory is... Walking in the freshly rototilled dirt in the nearly acre of garden my parents still maintain in Iowa.
My favorite summer pastime is... I love to garden. Like a lot of Westsiders we have a large yard which allows us to have nearly 1,500 square feet of garden area. Right now all of our little veggie plants are growing like crazy indoors.
Something good I've read is..."Free Range Kids," by Lenore Skenazy. Observing parents over the past few years had made me question the "real" dangers of everyday life. Was I too relaxed in my approach to life? Is an "overparenting" approach actually more dangerous? "Free Range Kids" touches on these questions I had and helped me to find confidence in my own approach to parenting.
My pet peeve is... Speeding along Colorado Avenue, specifically 21st to 30th Street. I feel like most take the posted 25-mph speed limit as a suggestion, and the average speed is really 35. This is a huge problem that needs to be addressed and enforced.
If I didn't have to work for a year, I'd… spend the summer and fall in my hometown, McGregor, Iowa. The green rolling hills, Mississippi River and time with family would be amazing. I’d spend the winter to spring somewhere on the Pacific coast of Mexico.
