Shrine Club concert/dance April 22 benefits Care and Share
It's hard to play the trombone and stamp out hunger at the same time, but Bill Emery is giving it his best shot.
The leader of the New Century Big Band has organized a special concert/dance at the Colorado Springs Shrine Club, 6 S. 33rd St., Saturday, April 22 from 7 to 10 p.m. All proceeds beyond basic expenses will go to Care and Share.
“We're wanting to make a difference,” Emery said. “It's an opportunity for the community to enjoy good entertainment and make a contribution in the fight against hunger.”
Activities will include a dance contest and a silent auction.
In an ongoing effort, the 17-member local band is accepting Care and Share food donations as part of the ticket cost for its regular monthly Shrine Club shows from March to June.
“What amazes me about Care and Share is its efficiency with the scope of the area they take care of,” Emery said. “They serve food pantries all across southern Colorado.”
New Century consists of experienced musicians from the area, focusing on music suitable for the waltz, fox trot and other classic dances.
Tickets are $15 in advance (at Tickets West or King Soopers) or $20 at the door.
