Earth Day work opportunities

       Earth Day at the Garden of the Gods will offer a cleanup opportunity Saturday, April 19. People are invited to work from 9 to 11 a.m. to remove trash from the Garden and surrounding area.
       The endeavor is sponsored by the Friends of Garden of the Gods.
       Signups will be taken starting at 8:30 at the Garden of the Gods Visitor & Nature Center.
      
       At the Bear Creek Nature Center, 245 Bear Creek Road, volunteers are needed Saturday, April 19 from 1 to 3 p.m. for Garden Stewardship Day. The work will involve cleaning up and preparing the gardens and surrounding areas for spring and summer. Reservations are required at 520-6387.
      
       Another Garden of the Gods opportunity will be Sunday, April 20. The Rocky Mountain Field Institute (RMFI) will have its first trail building/erosion control project of the season from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.
       The workday is geared for middle and high school student volunteers, who will be building small check dams to slow the flow of stormwater and trap sediment.
