Utilities to unveil Westside water plans April 11

Colorado Springs Utilities plans numerous water-line/fire flow im-provement projects on the older Westside over the next few years and plans to explain the work to local residents.
A public meeting is scheduled Wednesday, April 11 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Westside Community Center, 1628 W. Bijou St. Maps showing future work zones will be on display, and a presentation will be given by Darlene Garcia, manager of the Water Services Division's major programs and projects.
The affected area will be north of Highway 24, east of 31st Street, south of Uintah and west of Seventh Street, according to Kristin Flannery, issues manager for Utilities.
The first of the improvements will actually be under way before the meeting, she said. This will be a replacement of 700 feet of cast-iron pipe (at least 50 years old) on 20th Street between Platte and Bijou. The work will start Tuesday, April 10, is expected to last about two weeks and will close off 20th in that block for much of that time, Flannery said.
Access to the nearby West Middle and Elementary schools will be maintained, she added.
