Meet a Westsider:
Phil Westfall

Profession/Occupation... I've been teaching guitar (fun style) here on the Westside for five years.

What I like most about the Westside is... the friendly people and neighborhood feeling. Add to that the gorgeous views and nature so nearby – well now, that's what every Westsider says, isn't it?

If I could change anything about the Westside, it would be... to have a complete recycling collection point here on the Westside. A nice, state-of-the-art, user-friendly facility that would make us feel good about caring for our planet.

A good movie I’ve seen recently is... "Religulous," a documentary by Bill Maher. So funny, while urging us to take a lighter-hearted view about Eternity. I believe that reason will largely displace religion in our emerging global civilization; but then that's just my personal faith.

I'd like to discover... a cheap and abundant source of anti-matter.

If I could meet someone famous, I’d like to meet... the Dalai Lama. I want to play and sing for him my Tibetanized adaptation of Satchmo's classic, "Hello Dolly."

The next time I travel, I’m going to... New Zealand. Don't know how, don't know when, don't even know why – but I'm going there!

My favorite childhood memory is... listening to Beatles, Stones, Hendrix and Zeppelin records while house-sitting for my cool neighbors.

My favorite winter pastime is... going out hiking on warm days, listening to rain and thunder sounds on the cold ones.

Something good I’ve read is... the “Mars Trilogy,” by Kim Stanley Robinson. A convincing and highly human treatment of a story of 100 pioneers, the first to settle, tracing their lives to age 200+, when a newly- terraformed Mars has become the brave new world of human advancement. I'm on my third read, that's nine books in all.

My pet peeve is... anyone besides UPS knocking on my door without calling first.

If I didn't have to work for a year I would... I would finish recording my album (set for release in January 2012 even if I do have to work) in New Zealand.

Meet a Westsider” is a regular feature in the Westside Pioneer. If you would like to be a Meet-a-Westsider (or know someone who should be), please give us a call at 471-6776.
