Meetings on electric plan March 22 & 29
Two additional public meetings have been scheduled on the Electric Integrated Resource Plan (EIRP), Thursday, March 22 and 29. Both will begin at 5:30 p.m. at
the Mesa Conservation and Environmental Center,: 2855 Mesa Rd.
The meeting March 22 will focus on the potential resource portfolio scenarios. The March 29 meeting will be a presentation on the final draft EIRP, which is to be presented to Colorado Springs City Council (acting as the Utilities Board) April 18.
The EIRP is an update of the current plan, approved in 2004, which guides Utilities on energy policies. A key reason for the update is an unanticipated increase in citywide electricity usage, Utilities officials have explained.
At the March 22 and 29 public meetings, Springs Utilities staff will also take comments on five new Public Utility Regulatory Policies Act of 1978 (PURPA) standards that include: net metering, fuel sources, fossil fuel generation efficiency, smart metering, and interconnection.
PURPA directs the City Council to determine whether each of these new standards should be adopted.
