Westside schools:
West equal to all but one math team

By taking second place at the Pikes Peak chapter of the Professional Engineers of Colorado contest in February, West Middle School's Math Counts team will move on to state competition March 17.
On the West team are eighth-graders Ryan Dewey, John Dickson and Andrew Barentine, and seventh-grader Beth Luke. Their coach is math/science teacher Eric Hamilton.
The West contingent was up against 17 schools in the Pikes Peak chapter event.
A Holmes Middle School bingo night in February raised $140 for the Castle West fire victims. More than 200 people attended the activity.
“We wanted to acknowledge those that thought of our students by placing a donation in our collection jar,” said Anne Bakken of the Holmes PTSA.
Up to 100 Westside elementary school string musicians are expected to perform in the semi-annual All City Orchestra performance at Doherty High Saturday, March 10 at 2 p.m.
The 10 schools will join their counterparts from the 29 other elementaries in District 11, with the total orchestra numbering as many as 800.
West Andersen, orchestra director at Jackson Elementary, said all elementary orchestra students in the district have been asked to take part.
