What do you do?
Where do you work and what is your title?
I work at a local credit union, where I am a member service representative with a focus on business consulting.
What do you do there and/or what are you responsible for?
I am responsible for many things, including administrative tasks such as balancing the vault and ATM. Most importantly, I am responsible for our member services, taking care of all their individual financial needs.
How long have you been doing this kind of work (total)? How long on the Westside?
I have been a member service representative for a year and a half now and a business consultant for two months. I have been working on the Westside for six months.
What do you like best about it (other than quitting time)?
I love being able to help and educate our members with products and services that will improve their quality of life. Since I grew up on the Westside, I also really enjoy seeing friends from high school and their parents and catching up on old times as they come into the center.
If you could change one thing (other than pay), what would it be?
I would make us a larger center where we could service our members in an even more convenient, comfortable way.
What part of your work did your training/education never prepare you for?
Finances are extremely personal. There are times we help people who are at their worst moments, and it is extremely difficult not to be emotionally involved because I can’t fix everything for them. I can only assist them at that moment.
What makes working on the Westside special?
The unique group of people and the big sense of community. Working on the Westside is special because it gives my father a chance to stop in and visit me everyday even if it is just a short hello.
“What do you do?” is a regular feature in the Westside Pioneer. If you know someone who has an interesting job on the Westside (but doesn’t live here), he/she might be a candidate for this column! If you know someone who might qualify, give us a call at 471-6776.
