Coronado's student-sponsored senior citizen dance Feb. 28; will be at the school this year

Coronado High's student government will host its annual senior citizens dance Saturday, Feb. 28 in its auxiliary gym.
The free event will be from 2:30 to 5 p.m. It's open to anyone, but especially people over age 60. The New Century Big Band, known for playing classic dance music, will perform. A number of students will also be on hand.
The location is different from the past four years, when the dance was in the Westside Community Center's gym. The change also marks a return to the event's original site. The school's auxiliary gym was used when the students first began sponsoring the dance as an intergenerational outreach in 2003.
According to Diana Fitzsimmons, a Coronado teacher and student government advisor, the students this year “felt the gym at the Community Center was too small and thought it would be better at their school.”
Coronado is at 1590 W. Filllmore St., with the auxiliary gym the most northerly of the buildings.
For more information, call the school at 328-3600.
