A school historian has reported that this is the first time in the 38-year history of Coronado that the girls' swim team has won every dual meet, according to Dave Howard, school athletic director.
In the recent Metro League meet, the Cougar girls took fifth. They will send six swimmers (Alexis Rodarmel, Rosie Bradley, Katy Martinez,Taylor Kay, Morgan DeWitt and Katie Pina) to the state swim meet this weekend.
“All season we stressed the importance of contribution by all of our girls,” said coach Karen Busovsky. “Many of our meets were won because of the second, third and fourth place points.”
The wrestling team went 5-0 and took second in the Metro League after losing in the championship meet to Pine Creek last week.
According to wrestling coach Matt Brickell, this was the third season (second in a row) that his team has been perfect in dual meets since he became coach in 1991.
He cited four wrestlers, all sophomores, who were especially tough to beat during the season. These are Carter McElhany, Nick Burghardt, Nathan Burak and Ethan Olson.
