History of ‘Female Felons’ portrayed, presented

Actresses in period dress, portraying women incarcerated in Canon City's Territorial Prison, will augment a program at the Old Colorado City History Center Friday, Feb. 10 at 11 a.m.
Leading the presentation of “Forgotten Female Felons” will be southern Colorado historian and quilter Sherry Johns.
The History Center, owned and operated by the all-volunteer Old Colorado City Historical Society (OCCHS), is at 1 S. 24th St. Admission is $2 for non-members of the OCCHS. Seating is limited. Doors will open at 10:30 a.m., with visitors welcome to browse the museum.
The program “will bring to life the experiences and humanity of women prisoners from the late 1800s to early 1900s,” a press release states. Other elements will include historical photos and the “Forgotten Female Felons” quilt.
