Meet a Westsider:
Leonard Aldaz

Profession/Occupation... I am a senior loan officer at Certified Mortgage Solutions, Inc.

What I like most about the Westside is... the diversity of people and the variety of activities, open spaces (they’re filling in fast), art galleries and unique stores in Old Colorado City. The historical sites and the community atmosphere displayed by the Westsiders.

If I could change anything about the Westside, it would be... to preserve the neighborly atmosphere that has made the Westside so unique and to design the commercial growth on the Midland Expressway (US 24) to reflect the heritage of the Westside.

A good movie I’ve seen recently is... “Cinderella Man.” It reminds me of the hardships endured by our parents and the strong will displayed by them during the Great Depression, as well as the hard times many Westside families endured to make this city the great city that it is.

The worst advice I’ve ever gotten was... to leave the Westside to look for opportunity, thanks to God and family I never listened to it.

If I could meet someone famous, I’d like to meet... our current president and vice president and to share with them how out of touch they are with common folks and the hardships the working-class, elderly and less fortunate are suffering.

The next time I travel, I’m going to... Louisiana (Mardi-Gras) and visit friends who are now working to overcome Hurricane Katrina’s devastation.

My favorite childhood memory is... all my friends that I grew up with and the openness of the Westside where one could walk without worry and sleep with the door unlocked and how everyone was always looking out for their neighbors.

My favorite winter pastime is... coaching youth & high school wrestling.

Something good I’ve read is.. my daily words and daily bread, they are my inspiration for life.

My pet peeve is... when I see someone not respecting their Elders and misbehaving in front of them.

If I won the lottery, I’d... get lost in the Westside (not the bars ha, ha) and help those less fortunate to better their life.
