What do you do?
Where do you work and what is your title?
I own my own housecleaning business here on the Westside.
What do you do there and/or what are you responsible for?
I clean a home and make it shine. I think itís important for the client to have what they need. I need to know their preferences and what they like and donít like and anything specific to do. That includes all of the general cleaning facets, i.e. dusting, vacuuming, washing floors, etc. Most of my clientele is every other week and I have several I do once a month.
How long have you been doing this kind of work (total)? How long on the Westside?
I started my business here 15 years ago.
What do you like best about it (other than quitting time)?
I enjoy the accomplishment of the job as well as the independence. The Lord has given me an enjoyment of it and it keeps me in good physical condition.
If you could change one thing (other than pay), what would it be?
Itís been interesting to see how peopleís lives change over the years which creates its own turnover of clientele. People move, retire, lose jobs or move on in one way or another. Sometimes itís sad. I wish I could change that.
What part of your work did your training/education never prepare you for?
I trained and became a secretary out of high school. Shorthand doesnít help in housecleaning, but my enjoyment of order and neatness, along with some organizing skills, does come in handy.
What makes working on the Westside special?
Living and working on the Westside is just special! I appreciate the incredible beauty of my surroundings and people are so friendly. I think most of the people who live here want to be here and that makes a difference. I am blessed enough to live here. This is where I always wanted to be!
