Popular crossing guard remembered
I miss Charlie Bogans. If you are a Westsider and drive to work on West Colorado Avenue, you probably miss him too. Charlie was a crossing guard at the 17th and West Colorado intersection. Rain or shine, Charlie would be out there with a smile on his face waving to people he knew driving by.
Charlie is a wounded Vietnam veteran. The war made him walk with a limp and made his right side semi-useless, but his courage and positive attitude were left intact. In June of 2008, Charlie fell down while doing his duty. After some intense therapy he is doing better, but the position at 17th and Colorado for a crossing guard is a victim of D-11 budget cuts. I miss Charlie Bogans and wish him all the best.
