What do you do?
Rory York

Where do you work and what is your title?
       I am co-owner of KR Pet-n-Feed.
What do you do there and/or what are you responsible for?
I manage and operate the business on a daily basis. I am responsible for the inventory and purchase of all the food products and accessories.
How long have you been doing this kind of work (total)? How long on the Westside?
I have worked with animals of all kinds my whole life. I still train and barrel-race horses and raise dogs and birds. I worked at a pet and feed store in north central Colorado Springs before opening this store. We’ll be celebrating our one-year anniversary on the Westside in March.
What do you like best about it (other than quitting time)?
Owning my own store and being my own boss.
If you could change one thing (other than pay), what would it be?
To be able to educate people about the benefits of feeding their animals natural and quality feed. One of our goals is to have educational seminars on Saturdays (when the weather warms up!).
What part of your work did your training/education never prepare you for?
I never thought I would one day own and operate my own pet and feed store. I studied equine management in college, so I wasn’t prepared for smaller pets. I learned a lot on the job at my former place of employment. I also learned from studying company brochures what products I wanted to carry in our store. I believe in feeding animals all natural food without by-products or fillers.
What makes working on the Westside special?
The people are great, and the Westside has a uniqueness that separates it into its own special area to live and run a business.

“What do you do?” is a regular feature in the Westside Pioneer. If you know someone who has an interesting job on the Westside (but doesn’t live here), he/she might be a candidate for this column! If you know someone who might qualify, give us a call at 471-6776.
