Open houses for Howbert, Jackson additions

Howbert and Jackson elementaries have scheduled open houses for their new additions.
Jackson's will be Tuesday, Jan. 26, and Howbert's will be Friday, Jan. 29.
  • Jackson - The school at 4340 Edwinstowe Ave. will be open to visitors from 4 to 7 p.m. Former staff and students especially are invited to see the six-room addition at the north end of the school.
           For more information, call 328-5800.
  • Howbert - An all-school assembly at 2 p.m., featuring former staff members, will kick off the festivities, followed by an open house from 2:30 to 4 p.m. The school had a four-room addition at the north end of the school, as well as a remodeling of its media center and consolidation of a computer lab.
Howbert is also using the day to gather memorabilia from classes for a new 25-year time capsule. (The photos may be memorable, as the 29th is also “Fancy Dress Day” at Howbert.) The school had opened the previous capsule (from 1984) during its 50-year reunion last October.
           For more information, call 328-4200.
The additions, which opened at the start of this semester at both schools, were built to handle the extra students both received after school closings last year. Jackson received students from Pike, while Howbert got students from Whittier.
