Pikes Peak Road Runners hold 2 races at Norris-Penrose

The Pikes Peak Road Runners (PPRR) will sponsor two cross-country races - eight and four miles, respectively - Saturday, Jan. 25 at the Norris-Penrose Event Center, 1045 Lower Gold Camp Road.
According to Bethany Garner, president of the group's board of directors, the longer race will start at 10 a.m. and the shorter one at 10:20 a.m.
Registration on the day of the race will begin at 9 a.m. in the Sirloin Room on the south side of Penrose Stadium. Race-day registration fees are $20 for non-PPRR members, with future discounts available by becoming a member, Garner said.
Advance registration is possible at http://pprrun.org.
The event is free to spectators.
In both races, runners will start and finish at the center, just south of the stadium, and follow trails in neighboring Bear Creek Regional Park. The Pikes Peak Greenway trail will also be part of the eight-miler. The event is the second in PPRR's annual Winter Series of four races. The PPRR website states that Norris-Penrose is a Series site this year “because of trail washouts at the El Pomar Youth Sports Park due to the flooding in September 2013.”
A 5-kilometer course that also uses Norris-Penrose and Bear Creek Park has been the home of the state high school cross-country championships the past two years.
