Coronado lands 11 on All-State Choir
Continuing a double-digit trend over the past several years, 11 Coronado High School choir members have been chosen to the All-State Choir.
That gives CHS more selected students than any in the rest of District 11 combined, Choir Director Jeff Hodur said. His most ever is 15, he added.
Statewide, about 2,500 auditioned, with about 300 selected. There are three choirs (Women's, Men's and Mixed). Only students in grades 11 and 12 are eligible to apply.
Hodur said his students are required to be well-rounded musically - including comprehension of sight reading and composition - which helps them in the live solo auditions that are part of the judging process.
Unlike at most other schools, all of Coronado's choir students are required to audition. Hodur believes that three or four of his selectees this time might not have auditioned at all otherwise.
The All-State students are listed below, with the choir they're in: junior Christy Radspinner, Women's; junior Morgan Unruh, Women's; senior Nicole Muzzy, Mixed; junior Kara Brewer, Women's; junior Megan Flynn, Women's; senior Kyla Conway, Women's; senior Joshua Brewer, Men's; senior David Driffill, Mixed; senior Nathan Jensen, Men's; senior Jeffrey Urquhart, Men's; and senior Aaron Brown, Men's.
