Meet a Westsider:
Alice Carlson

Profession/Occupation... Piano teacher and student at UCCS.

What I like most about the Westside is... The eclectic, relaxed atmosphere. The Westside is definitely not one of those cookie-cutter neighborhoods. All the variety is refreshing.

If I could change anything about the Westside, it would be... a higher speed limit on Highway 24.

A good movie I’ve seen recently is... “Sarah's Key” – a movie about the Holocaust and a contemporary journalist who investigates a particular event/family in French history. It's quite moving, and I highly recommend it. My favorite movie concerning music is “Immortal Beloved” – it has the best soundtrack ever!

I'd like to discover... How to go to grad school without spending a dime!

If I could meet someone famous, I’d like to meet... Italian pianist Mauricio Pollini, just to hear him play in person would be divine!

The next time I travel, I’m going... My graduation present to myself will be a trip to Mexico with my sister to sit on the beach and drink margaritas...

My favorite childhood memory is... I grew up in Washington and we had really tall cedar trees on our property, which my siblings and I would climb until we got as high up as we could go. Then we'd just sit there letting the wind sway the tree back and forth while watching the world way below. Once our milk cow, Daisy, trapped me in one of those trees, but that's a different story and not necessarily a favorite memory!

My favorite winter pastime is... Taking a walk in new-fallen snow. It's breathtakingly beautiful!

Something good I’ve read is... “The Fifth Witness,” by Michael Connelly, a book in the Lincoln Lawyer series. Connelly creates wonderful multi-dimensional characters who grow and change with each book. Although my favorite character of his is Harry Bosch, “The Fifth Witness” is a great read too.

My pet peeve is... People who don't know how to merge onto the highway.

If I won the lottery I’d... find a little shack by the sea and do nothing but play.
